Guidelines for the Mirena coil have been updated

The Mirena IUD coil has now been licensed for 8 years for contraception.
New clinical guidelines released by the FSRH (Faculty of sexual and reproductive healthcare) in January 2024 says that the Mirena IUD coil has now been licensed for 8 years for contraception.
If you have a Mirena coil in place, it will now last 8 years (previously 6 years).
It’s always important to check first with your GP or local sexual health clinic (your coil provider) about what type of coil you have, and when it needs removing.
