Testing and Treatment of STI’s
In Derby City and Derbyshire a comprehensive and free sexual health service is offered and includes screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV testing, treatment and follow up, sexual health information and support.
When do STIs show in tests?
It can take up to two weeks after catching chlamydia or gonorrhea to show up in a test. It can take up to 12 weeks before HIV or syphilis show up.
What is a quick check-up?
Sometimes people with a sexually transmitted infection do not get any symptoms. This is particularly common with chlamydia, as 75% of women and 50% of men with chlamydia have no symptoms. This means that it’s especially important to regularly get screened for STIs, even if you haven't noticed any changes or symptoms.
A quick STI check-up will test for the four most common sexual infections: chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV and syphilis. You’ll need to provide a urine sample or swab sample and also a blood sample.
The online STI testing kits are discreet, quick and can be ordered to your home - you can get the results quickly too.
Request a free and confidential testing kit here or contact our service for further information.
What is a full check-up?
A full check-up is offered to people who have symptoms and we will test for most STIs, including HIV. We will take a small blood sample and ask you about your sexual history and any risks you may have taken. This check-up also includes an examination.
Please check our clinic finder to find where we offer this service. To book an appointment, please call the service on the number below.
We also diagnose and treat some genital infections that are not sexually transmitted, like thrush or bacterial vaginosis (BV), for example.
Some people just want advice. Whatever your needs, we are a service that pays particular attention to the needs of each individual.
How do I book an appointment?
The Sexual Health information and booking line is open Monday- Thursday, 8am-7pm, Friday, 8am - 5pm and Saturday 10am - 1pm (closed bank holidays).

What happens if an infection is found?
If an infection is found, you may need to come back to the clinic for treatment. When you return to the clinic, clear instructions will be given to you about which treatment you need and how to take it. We will also explain if your partner needs treatment too.
We can now offer anonymous and confidential partner notification for STI testing. SXT is a confidential service and do not store any of your personal details. By completing a few details online, they are able to notify sexual partners via a text to ask them to get in touch and recommend an STI test. If you have received a positive STI result and are being treated elsewhere but wish to notify sexual partners to get tested anonymously, please contact us for the website link.
All treatments you will be given are free. We do not charge for hospital prescriptions.
