Condoms are the only type of contraception that can both prevent pregnancy and help protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). You can pick up free condoms from our clinics and other outlets in Derby and Derbyshire. You can also order them online and they’ll arrive in a plain package
Condoms stop sperm and other fluids passing between people during vaginal, oral and anal sex. They’re made from very thin material, so you do not lose sensation.
There are 2 types of condoms:
- Female or internal condoms, which are worn inside the vagina.
- Male or external condoms, which are worn on the penis. These are the most popular and well-known type. You can get these condoms from us for free, and we offer both latex and non-latex options.
Both types of condom can help protect you from STIs if they’re used right.
When it comes to preventing pregnancy, male condoms are 98% effective. This means when they’re used correctly, fewer than 2 in 100 people who use them will get pregnant each year.
Female condoms are not quite as effective as male condoms. However, they are still 95% effective in preventing pregnancies if they’re used as they should be.
Read NHS advice on how to use a condom.

If you’re aged 13 to 15
We’ll have a quick chat with you first if you’re aged 13 to 15, which can be done over the phone. This is just to make sure you’re happy with your choice to have sex.
Our chat will be completely confidential. We won't tell anyone else, not even parents or carers, unless you want us to.
The only time we would involve someone else is if we’re worried about your safety and need to ask another professional for help. We will always discuss this with you first and give you all the support you need.
You can order up to 12 condoms and 3 sachets of lube to arrive at your home. You can order 1 package each month.

All you need to do is fill out an order form with your name and home address.
To make sure the service is used properly we may get in touch to double-check your details. We’ll email or call, depending on how you’ve said you prefer to be contacted.
All the information you provide will be confidential. It won’t be used for any other reason than checking your order.
