Chlamydia Testing and Treatment
Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) and the under-25s are most at risk. It affects both males and females and often there are no symptoms, or the symptoms are so mild that they are not noticed. This means that you’ll need to have a test to find out if you have this infection.
Should I be tested for chlamydia?
It's recommended that if you are under 25 and sexually active you should get tested for chlamydia annually or every time you change your sexual partner.
How can I be tested for chlamydia?
If you are over 16 years old, take a test at home and receive your STI results by text within 7 days. It’s quick and easy to do!
If you are under 16 you can collect a free testing kit from one of our sexual health clinics, or if you are worried and have symptoms, please make an appointment at one of our sexual health clinics by calling us on 0800 328 3383.
Order your chlamydia testing kit
Your discreet kit will arrive within a few days of ordering. It will contain everything you need to provide us with samples. You will also need to fill out a form with your contact details, so your results can be sent back to you.
Chlamydia will not show up on the test until 2 weeks after the infection has been picked up.
What treatment is available?
If an infection is found, you will need to come back to the clinic for treatment.
Chlamydia is easy to treat with antibiotics, either as a single dose or a longer course for up to two weeks.
Should I tell my partner?
Yes, your partner will also need to be tested and treated.
All treatments you will be given are free. We do not charge for hospital prescriptions.
It is important that you do not have any further sexual contact with your partner, until you receive treatment for your infection. We advise you to contact any previous sexual partners, who may also be at risk from the infection. Partners can order a free and confidential STI screening kit online - which tests for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and HIV, which can be sent to a preferred address (within Derbyshire). The test kit will arrive in a plain envelope and the results are texted to their phone.
We can now offer anonymous and confidential partner notification for STI testing. SXT is a confidential service and do not store any of your personal details. By completing a few details online, they are able to notify sexual partners via a text to ask them to get in touch and recommend an STI test. If you have received a positive STI result and are being treated elsewhere but wish to notify sexual partners to get tested anonymously, please contact us for the website link.
